COLD PRESSED JUICES
Cold pressing is a method of juicing where fruits and veggies are pressed to extract the juice with a hydraulic press. Unlike other methods, there is no heating involved which helps to preserve vitamins and minerals.
Benefits of cold pressed juices are multiple, some of them being listed below.
They are a great source of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.
It is an easy way to include more fruits and vegetables into your diet.
They help detoxify your body.
Nutrients are easily and quickly absorbed by your body.
While there are many benefits to cold pressed juices, it is still important to note that juices have less fiber than a whole fruit or vegetable does. This is due to the juice being separated from the pulp which contains most of the fiber. Additionally, fruit juices tend to have a higher glycemic index, which raise blood-sugar levels (something to look at if you have diabetes). It is then preferable to include more vegetable than fruit while making your juice.
You can find various juice recipes on internet and/or in specialized books. To give you a few ideas, below are the three juices that I like to make:
Green detox juice: Celery + Kale/Spinach + Green Apple + Lemon + Ginger
Low fodmap juice: Carrots + Kale + Cucumber + Lemon + Ginger
Beetroot boost juice: Carrots + Orange + Beetroot + Lemon + Ginger + Turmeric
To make the juices, I personally use the Juice Fountain (Breville) and I am happy with it. It is easy to use and clean. Juicer machines are numerous and their cost is vast! The Juice Fountain cost was under $200 (AUS).
To finish this article, something I noticed after making the juice was the amount of leftover juice pulp. Depending on the size of your juice, it can be relatively important. While your first instinct might be to throw it in the bin, you can note that there are many ways to use it, such as, baking (cake/muffins...), face mask, clothing dye, soup broth, smoothie, compost…
